Our Mission
Our Mission
Our mission is to help create a platform to bridge the gap between developers, housing agencies, and local youth. By involving youth directly in the industry, they gain invaluable real-world experience and the opportunity to contribute to research and development in a meaningful way. This not only benefits their personal and professional growth but also ensures that developers receive fresh perspectives on housing challenges. Such collaboration can lead to innovative solutions that address the needs of future generations, making affordable housing more accessible and sustainable. It's a proactive approach to community development that empowers all participants and promotes a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding affordable housing.
Why are we obsessed with Youth and Affordable Housing?
The housing crisis in Vancouver demands urgent action, particularly from the youngest generations who will face its consequences most acutely. Today’s youth must engage more actively in understanding the intricacies of the housing market and the policies that shape it. Unfortunately, knowledge of the crisis remains superficial; many young people are unaware of how housing policies are created or how the market operates. This lack of understanding complicates their ability to advocate for themselves and their peers effectively.
Internships and tailored opportunities present a powerful solution. By immersing youth in hands-on experiences within housing advocacy organizations, government bodies, and real estate businesses, we equip them with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and influence policy. Such experiences can demystify the underlying mechanisms of housing markets and foster a generation of advocates who are prepared to tackle the challenges ahead.
The reality is stark: a slow and constant decrease in homeownership rates threatens the stability of communities. Many young people find themselves locked out of the housing market, unable to secure a stable roof over their heads. This instability can undermine their future opportunities, leading to a cycle of insecurity that can persist for years.
To address these pressing issues, we must prioritize educating and empowering the next generation. By fostering an environment that promotes active learning and participation in housing policy discussions, we can ensure that youth voices are not only heard but are instrumental in creating solutions that lead to sustainable and affordable housing. It is imperative for today’s youth to rise and shape the future of housing policy, creating a Vancouver that is inclusive and accessible for all.
What are the goals of our program?

What can make development easier?
-
Just some of the things that Youth can help with:
Contribute market research, such as competitors.

Facilitate discussion and advocacy for certain policies.
Help connect developers to grants and other non-profit organizations.
